British scientists recently found that flavonoids and anthocyanins can reduce the symptoms of insulin resistance. They studied 1,452 women aged 18-76 and investigated the relationship between their intake of flavonoids and anthocyanins and their peripheral tissue insulin resistance. People who consume more flavones and anthocyanins have lower concentrations of insulin and therefore have a marked improvement in peripheral insulin resistance. Those who ate the most flavonoids, adiponectin (an important substance that regulates body lipid metabolism and blood glucose homeostasis), improved their condition.
