Materialized labor has a strict distinction from living labor both in terms of its form of labor, status and role, and it is a kind of labor that materializes to value rather than “materialized labor.” Since materialized labor, as it has materialized or solidified as value, has lost the characteristics of living labor, and since it is still living, it can not be said that it has materialized. To define materialized labor as materialized labor can only confuse the two opposing categories of materialized labor and living labor and can not reflect the essence of materialized labor. To speak of materialized labor as living labor, to create value, is a source of value, which is incorrect.
