This group of pictures was taken at a limestone mine. The image of obliterated mountains has become the most typical feature of these areas， which were once covered by forest. Conversely， the sharp contrast reflects human domination of nature. Influenced by the aesthetic patterns of the Song Dynasty’s （960-1279） large-scale landscape paintings， this series of pictures not only showcases but also illustrates a brand new man-made landscape.
Landscape Ruins
Instead of the natural landscape characterized by rivers and mountains， Yang Zheyi turned to images resulting from rapid industrial construction over the past century， when traditional Chinese attitudes about nature were turned upside down both visually and mentally.
