严复对自由、民主、平等的理解,都是以对个人价值的确认为基础的,并且与社会进步、国家富裕的整体目标相统一。这决定了严复对亚当·斯密经济思想的传播是准确的、忠实的。严复对亚当·斯密经济思想的传播实际上是有长远考虑的。他希望通过《国富论》等学术著作的翻译出版,在中国打造与国际接轨的讨论经济问题的平台,基于教育的普及,转变和提高国人的观念和素质,培育市场经济的微观基础,构建自由竞争的制度,从而实现中国的社会进步和经济发展。严复告诉我们,把国家富强融入人类文明的潮流,市场经济在中国才有意义和可能。
Yan Fu’s understanding of freedom, democracy and equality are all based on the confirmation of individual values and are in harmony with the overall goal of social progress and prosperity of the country. This determines that Yan Fu’s accurate and faithful dissemination of Adam Smith’s economic ideas. Yan Fu’s thinking on the spread of Adam Smith’s economic thinking is actually a long-term consideration. He hoped that through the translation and publication of such academic works as “Wealth of Nations,” it will create a platform for discussing economic issues in China in line with international standards. Based on the popularization of education, transform and enhance the people’s concepts and qualities, cultivate the micro-foundation of the market economy and build freedom Competition system, so as to achieve China’s social progress and economic development. Yan Fu told us that to integrate the prosperity of our country into the trend of human civilization, the market economy will make sense and possible in China.
