Two uranium deposits in the SanJuan Basin are now under development and construction by Uranium Resource Company and its affiliated water company, which started early in 1998. Both deposits will use advanced ground immersion (ISL) mining technology. Uranium Resources and Water Resources The recoverable uranium reserves currently owned by the Company at less than $ 39 / kgU in the two deposits it has developed are estimated at about 14,583 t. Uranium resources in the Sanjuan Basin are the largest of any metallogenic province in the United States. In March 1997, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission responsible for recommending production licenses issued the Final Environmental Impact Report (FEIS) for the deposit site. FEIS, after 9a’s efforts, obtained a license and was allowed to develop the deposit. The Jurassic Morrison Formation Westwater canyon is a fine-grained feldspar sandstone sandwiched between clay rocks deposited throughout the basin under wet alluvial fan environments in the Sanjuan Basin. The native layered uranium ore body is a humic acid salt, symbiotic plate-shaped deposit that occurs in the Westwater Gorge section and is subsequently reactivated to a coil forward. Since the Jurassic sedimentation, two stages of reactivation have occurred in the basin, forming a single-metal uraninite ore that can be sub-leached and does not contain organic debris. In view of the leaching of groundwater, the recovery of groundwater in the two mines has to meet the water quality consistent with the basic conditions before mining. The development of immersion mining provides an environmentally viable uranium extraction method that reduces costs. Uranium Resources and Water Resources, a unit of land from New Mexico, is expected to produce between 385 and 1156tU per year.
