毛泽东、邓小平的民族发展观是一脉相承的科学理论体系,有着共同的精神实质和理论特征,都是以一切从实际出发、实事求是为根本原则,立足于中国革命和建设的实际,把马克思主义关于民族问题的基本原理同中国民族问题的实际结合起来,解决在不同历史条件下中国少数民族地区的现实问题。在新时期,深入学习领会和贯彻毛泽东、邓小平的民族发展观,对于进一步推动少数民族地区经济社会的全面发展,从而促进中国社会的全面、协调、可持续发展,具有重要的现实指导意义。
