我省是一个河网发达的内陆省,具有良好的水运条件,湘、资、沅、澧及洞庭湖的主要干线航道,连同各主要支流,形成直达长江、沟通全省各主要城市的水运网络。全省现有航道通航里程10010公里,占全国内河航道通航里程的1/10,居全国各省、市第4位。其中,三级航道257公里,四级航道73公里,五级航道899公里,六级航道1169公里,七级航道633公里。
