电影诞生不久就有了情节剧影片,以后便衍化为情节片。作为一种最受观众欢迎的样式,推崇者有之,贬抑者也有之。尤其在电影圈内,以情节片为低俗下品者更是大有人在。这情形令人产生对这一样式考察的兴趣。作为一种渊源流长的传统情节剧样式,一、二个世纪来无数戏剧艺术家的惨淡经营以及大半个世纪许多电影艺术家的呕心沥血,在戏剧和电影园地上均培育出许多绚丽的鲜花,单就电影而言,从电影巨匠格里菲斯、卓别林、金·维多、约·休斯顿到法斯宾德、斯皮尔伯格;从郑正秋、蔡楚生到谢晋,不少电影大师曾创造了许多电影瑰宝,名震遐迩,其中许多是属于情节片。
