中国现已成为世界公认的皮革生产大国,由制革、制鞋、皮具(皮件)、皮革服装、毛皮及制品五个主体行业,以及皮革化工、皮革机械、皮革五金、鞋用材料等配套行业组成的中国皮革业,正呈迅速发展态势,并在原料资源、产品产量和进出口贸易总额方面,于世界范围内均可被称为“皮革大国”。中国的猪皮、羊皮原料资源居世界第一,牛皮居世界第三;每年的轻革、鞋类、皮衣及皮具产量均居世界第一;皮革及皮革制品进出口贸易量和贸易额大,为世界首位。
