The authors sought to determine whether the att mutation in respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) could be transferred to another, much more distantly related virus in Paramyxovirus, parainfluenza 3 (PIV3). The ts and att phenotypes were shown after cold phenylalanine to leucine mutation at the 521 site in the L polymerase of the temperature-sensitive (ts) vaccine candidate strain cpts5 30 for cold passage (RSV) cold passage (cp).
