In May 1946, the exhausted Northeast Democratic Coalition forces withdrew from Siping and Changchun and retreated to the north bank of the Songhua River, they were not followed up by the Kuomintang army. After a comprehensive analysis of a large number of relevant historical data, this article finds that this is related to the strategic intentions of China and the United States (the Northeast) with the actual efforts of Marshall. At that time, the United States believed that from the perspective of its own global interests, the United States did not blindly support Chiang Kai-shek in its fierce civil war in northeast China.
