Despite the reduced ethinyl estradiol content in compound contraceptive pills, there are still many system side effects that are of concern. It has been suggested that a combination of estrogen and megestrol acetate may be a suitable combination of birth control pills, although the medication is easy to tolerate, but the pregnancy rate was unacceptably high. Micronised estradiol (Micronised estra-diol) is a natural estrogen that is readily orally absorbed and used in combination with norethindrone and is already a potent oral contraceptive.
