A fully automatic monitoring of a landslide of a hotel and villa project along a natural mountain in Shimei Bay, Hainan was carried out to study the mechanism of rainfall-induced landslide. Monitoring using a water meter, tension meter, pore water pressure gauge, inclinometer and rain gauge and a series of instruments, and automatic data acquisition instrument connected to achieve real-time monitoring of slope conditions. The monitoring cycle began with the landslide recurring in the dry season from 2011 to the rainy season in 2012, mainly introducing the design and installation of on-site landslide monitoring system. Through the analysis of the data obtained, it is considered that the huge change of the slope moisture content and the substrate suction under the heavy rainfall is the important reason for the induction of the shallow landslide.
