1 Introduction Oxygenated fuels - alcohols as the alternative fuels for automobiles are of universal importance all over the world. In particular, ethanol, methanol and MTBE (methyl tert-butyl ether) are promising fuels. Among them, the added 8 to 10% alcohol blend of gasoline, has been in the United States since 1978 sales. In Brazil, mixed gasoline with 20% ethanol has been used since 1975, and cars that use 100% ethanol fuel are currently available. Especially in all European countries, methanol and MTBE hybrid gasoline has been put into practical use.
