以演出京味戏剧为特长的北京人民艺术剧院,于2005年1月19日开始在首都剧场演出了具有喜剧风格的话剧《开市大吉》,由何冀平编剧,顾威导演,舞美设计李果,灯光设计李聪。《开市大吉》是何冀平根据老舍的同名小说改编的,为使内容丰富也借用了老舍《善人》和《牺牲》两个小说中的人物。该剧描写三个不懂医术的骗子——大话王、乔治、一刀邱,私开医院,乱给人看病,为了赚钱不管病人的死活。乔治“治”死了赵老太爷,一刀邱的整容使穆凤珍“丢”了自己,大话王也把身患性病的汪富贵治得病人膏肓。
