现代的柑桔栽培。绝大多数都是采用嫁接育苗。有了优良品种的接穗,还得有合适的砧水。砧木选用正确与否,不仅会影响柑桔的产量、质量和寿命,而且关系到柑桔栽培的成败。 各地的生态条件千差万别,适栽的种类、品种各不一样,因而所需的砧木也就不同。枳壳是我国比较普遍使用的一种砧木良种,其树势强健,耐寒力极强,适应性也较广。除两广、福建南部和闽、浙沿海滩涂盐碱地不适用外,大部分柑桔产区都用枳壳作甜橙、宽皮桔的砧木,且表现良好。由于枳壳确有许多优点,加上广泛使用,久而久之,就产生了一种错觉,似乎什么柑桔品种都可以用枳壳作砧。在我省不少地方.甚至认为枳壳是唯一的砧木、万能的砧木,不分气候,不看品种,一概非枳壳不接。我省土生土长的好砧木不用,宁可花重金到外省去买枳壳种。我省多数地方用枳壳作砧,固然可以,但也有部分地方用枳壳作砧已出现问题,给生产带来一定损失,如不及时纠正,其损失还会越来越大。现就如何因地制宜、正确选用砧木良种,谈一点看法,供生产上参考。
