The European Gas Turbine Company (EGT) has announced the latest developments in its high-performance turbocharger range. The new Napier 047 supercharger is the smallest of the company’s turbocharger lineup, one of the company’s seven series. This new turbocharger is designed for medium speed engines with a power rating of 700kW and a pressure ratio of 4.5. The purpose is to burn heavy oil, with a high overall efficiency, low consumption, reliable operation. Such turbochargers are expected to gain considerable market share, particularly in marine auxiliary engines. The Napier 047 supercharger is a radial design with built-in bearings without cooling. Like the other superchargers in the series, the bearings operate on the engine’s lube system. Bearings have a longer service life, even in contaminated lubricants as well.
