According to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology website, the school neuroscientists found that there is a strange line in the brain, allowing a small part of the brain area to sleep or become dull, while the rest remains awake. This circuit begins with transmitting information to the thalamus and into the cerebral cortex, inducing slow-wave packets in the thalamic reticular nucleus, signaling that deep sleep slow waves are oscillations of brain activity when the neurons are transiently suppressed. This brainwave is associated with a decrease in wakefulness, and hence slow oscillations also occur in coma and anesthesia. When the thalamic reticular nucleus reaches a certain level of activity, these waves control the entire brain. In addition, it may also be the absence of sleepers
