白修德本名西奥多·H·怀特(Theodore Harold White),是出生在美国的犹太移民第二代,在哈佛大学念书时曾师从著名汉学家费正清。抗战时期,白修德曾在重庆国民政府任宣传部顾问,也是美国《时代》周刊驻重庆记者,采写了大量关于中国战场的报道,访问延安后写出影响巨大的名著《中国的惊雷》。在抗战期间所有驻华美国记者中,白修德被认为是最倾向中国
Theodore Harold White, the second generation of Jewish immigrants born in the United States, studied under the famous sinologist Fei Zhengqing at Harvard University. During the war of resistance against Japan, Bai Xiude served as adviser to the Propaganda Department of the Chongqing National Government and also a reporter for the Times in the United States. He wrote a large number of reports on the battlefield in China. After his visit to Yenan, he wrote a great book entitled “China’s Thunder.” Among all the U.S. journalists stationed in China during the war, Bai was regarded as the most inclined toward China
