1977—1978年,我们在利辛县魏楼生产队,进行棉田放鸡捕食棉铃虫的实验,取得初步成效。据1977年8月10日调查,放鸡除虫对棉铃虫成虫和幼虫都有一定的抑制作用。1978年8月24日,我们将在棉田放捕了2小时的1只1.5斤重的小鸡,进行解剖,发现鸡嗉囊内有13条4—5龄的棉铃虫幼虫和3头大豆天蛾的成虫,还有一些糊状的其他虫体。棉田放鸡与稻田放鸭相似,也可能会消灭一些益虫,对这方面,我们未作详细的调查和观察。
