太平天国定都天京后,在进行北伐的同时进行了西征。西征的战略目标是夺取安庆、九江、武昌三大军事重镇。控制长江中游地区,屏障天京,奠定江南,巩固和发展太平天国革命事业。西征军在鄂东广济之田家镇和对岸兴国(今阳新县)之半壁山与清军进行了两次大战。这两次战役虽然发生在同一地点,交战双方都是太平军与清军,但战役的特点、结果和影响却有不同。
After the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom was capitalized in Beijing, the Western Expedition was carried out at the same time as the Northern Expedition. The strategic goal of the expedition is to seize the three major military centers of Anqing, Jiujiang and Wuchang.
