CAD system can generate, store, update, transport and track design graphics. However, it has always been a daunting task to transfer the drawn images to the CAD system, which is cumbersome, expensive and requires a human-to-digital converter. However, the advent of optical scanners has broken the barrier. The principle of an optical scanner is that light reflected from a graphic or document is converted into an array of charge-coupled devices (CCDs) through a lens or optical fiber. In this type of array, any one of the graphs is considered as a collection of many small graphics units or pixels.
