Objective To investigate the relationship between college students’ stress level and their mental health in medical college. Methods The pressure source and pressure of 935 medical undergraduates were measured by Beck-Srivastava pressure scale (BSSI), and their mental health status was evaluated by SCL-90. Results The most common source of stress for undergraduates in medical colleges and universities is the pressure of various examinations, the competition among students, the expectation of the family, the suitability of the professional choice and the employment situation. In the aspect of the intensity of stress, the minimum BSSI scores of the undergraduates participating in the survey were 51 points and the maximum value was 107 points, with an average of (78.21 ± 10.36) points, which was obviously higher than the critical value. The scores of SCL-90 and Chinese youth norm were higher than those of national youth norm in interpersonal relationship, depression and hostility (P <0.01). In terms of gender, Relationship and hostility of two factors higher than girls, the difference was statistically significant (P <0.01). Conclusion The stress situation of undergraduates in medical colleges and universities is closely related to mental health status, which should be paid more attention to by schools and relevant psychological counseling should be carried out as early as possible.
