The Ogaden Basin belongs to the sub-basin of the Somali Basin. As of 2013, a total of 34 wells were drilled, of which 19 were oil and gas discovery wells and 4 were oil and gas discoveries with a low success rate of oil and gas exploration. Clearly exploring the potential of oil and gas exploration in the study area and implementing the direction of commercial oil and gas exploration are the major concerns of investors. Based on the analysis of hydrocarbon accumulation conditions in the Ogaden basin, it is recognized that the Ogaden Basin has high potential for oil and gas exploration. In particular, the Calub saddle has favorable conditions for oil and gas accumulation and the Calub saddle is a positive tectonic unit of successional development. On the mid-deep fault anticline background, a large draping anticline is formed in the shallow layer. There are several sets of favorable reservoir-cap assemblages , A number of sets of high quality source rocks are developed on both east and west sides. The source rock has a wide distribution, large thickness, high organic matter abundance and hydrocarbon generation potential, and is located in a favorable point for hydrocarbon migration and accumulation, providing large-scale hydrocarbon accumulation The material foundation is the best place to explore mid-deep natural gas and shallow condensate reservoirs. In addition, the slope zone of the basin (western steep slope zone and northern gentle slope zone) is close to the center of oil and gas formation and is located in a convergent hydrocarbon source unit where oil and gas are concentratedly transported. Therefore, oil and gas accumulation conditions are favorable and can also serve as key exploration areas for next exploration.
