Reaction kinetics of bainite formation In carbon steel, it is difficult to distinguish between bainite and ferrite and pearlite reactions because these phases can also be formed under bainite transformation conditions. For example, the TTT plot for 0.8 carbon steels is a continuous transition curve, and while both pearlite and bainite transformation can occur, it is difficult to understand both of these transitions to study their kinetics. However, the addition of alloying elements separates the reaction to a degree that renders the pearlite and bainite reactions into separate two curves on the TTT plot, with more complex patterns than the familiar C curve.
