20世纪初年,梁启超的政论文鼓动一时风潮,开启一代文风,既推动了中国政治思想和社会文化的近代化变革,亦推动了中国文学的近代化转型。文界革命已成为一股浩荡的时代潮流,同时代的作家或自觉加入其中,或不自觉地受其裹挟,连章太炎这样自觉抵制此种文风的大家也未能完全超脱。以汪精卫为代表的《民报》阵营政论家的政论文,不仅在政治法理理论的运用方面不输于梁任公,而且就其文字对于青年的感染力和鼓动性来说,亦有后来居上之势。政论文学盛行的时代潮流还波及到其它文体,不仅对同属报章“新文体”的新体评传等文体产生了直接影响,而且对小说、诗歌、戏曲等文类产生了辐射性的影响,使之蒙上了鲜明的政论色彩,同时也在不经意间推动了散文、诗歌、小说、戏曲诸文体的近代化变革。

So that they cast a distinctive political discourse. At the same time, they also inadvertently promoted the modern transformation of prose, poetry, fiction and drama.
