Methane (CH4) is an important greenhouse gas. Since the industrial revolution, CH4 concentration in the atmosphere has increased by 2 to 3 times. Under the global climate change background, the rapid growth of CH4 fluxes and the possible consequences of the Arctic Ocean aroused much attention in the world due to the tremendous amount of CH4 reserves buried in the frozen land and glacial geological regions of the Arctic coast. The research status of Arctic ocean CH4 was reviewed. The distribution characteristics, fluxes and biogeochemical behaviors of CH4 in Arctic Ocean were emphatically introduced. Finally, the existing problems in this field were discussed.
