在国内外,包括摩崖在内的各种大大小小、形形色色的“佛像”和“佛”字,可谓多如繁星、不计其数。经多方考证,在这些摩崖“佛像”和“佛”字当中,时间最早且体型最大的应首推四川省境内乐山市的“佛像”和彭州市的“佛”字了。乐山大佛,又名凌云大佛,曾经一度被官方称之为嘉州凌云寺大弥勒石像。它位于现在的四川省乐山市,镶嵌在岷江、青衣江和大渡河交汇处的凌云山栖鸾峰的岩壁上,依崖临江,与乐山城区隔江相望。乐山大佛始建于唐玄宗开元元
