The author in this paper offers critical analysis and comments of Anthony Giddens’s The Consequences of Modernity and The Third Way ,both were translated into Chinese and recently published in China.While Giddens’s books,including the Constitution of Society and Nation State and Violence,are becoming influential amongst Chinese academics and readers,there are few reviews on his writings.In this paper,the author,who has been involved in the translation and publication of Giddens’s books in China,locates the current theoretical debates on Modernity and the Third Way in the post Cold War contexts,and argues there are possibilities and alternatives for us to analyze today’s global trends and to think of the future.
