G.E.M.de Ste.Croix is a famous Oxford Marxist historian and academician of British College. May 1, 1986 morning, I first visited Oxford, took the liberty to call him and made a self introduction. He was very pleased to hear that he was born in China and very much hope to talk with an ancient Marxist historian from China. He agreed to meet at the Eucharistic College in the afternoon. At the meeting, he presented me with his monograph “The Origins of the Peloponnes War” and “The Class Struggle in the Ancient Greek World”, together with a printed copy of almost all the papers. Since then, we have become the turn of years, and met many times in 1987, 1991 and 1995. The last time I met him was in early November 1995. I said I would like to have an official interview with him. He said that he had held academic symposiums with the editorial department of HOROS Magazine in Greece (as the “landmark” and “bond-stone” solution), which was collated and published in the journal No. 6, 1988, pp. 123-133 I reference. Later, he sent a memoir of this seminar to me, and after I read it, he added three additional questions and asked him to reply. On February 26, 1998, 88-year-old Croas wrote a relatively simple reply to these three questions with a serious illness and sent two letters to Nankai University. I am deeply touched and admired the inexplicable name . Two years later, Croix died on February 5, 2000. The memoir of the forum and the rather precious copy of Kluwa’s reply manuscript are now being traced back to readers and to the experts and scholars. The minutes of the forum are slightly abridged. There are some places in the manuscript that I do not understand or the handwriting is not clearly identified.
