1927年10月17日,五条大汉持枪闯进上海极司菲尔路(现名万航渡路)的一处民居,绑架了正在吃晚饭的张元济(1867-1959)。绑匪索价30万元。有一个绑匪看见张穿的毛衣上面有一个破洞,觉得很奇怪,就问,你这么有钱的人也穿破衣服呀。张元济真的不是有钱人,被绑架后,全家变卖了股票、首饰,仅凑足5000元,绑匪的赎金从30万元降到15万元,再降到10万元、5万元、3万元,日后只好以1万元放人。
On October 17, 1927, five big men armed with a gun broke into a dwelling house in Shanghai Jiushi Road (now Wanhangdu Road) and abducted Zhang Yuanji (1867-1959) who was eating dinner.
