The idea that excitement is chemically delivered between cell structures is also generated in two physiology labs, and despite being thousands of miles apart, these two labs are still closely linked by their similar research topics. One of them was the Langley Laboratory at Cambridge University, where Elliott saw in 1904 that adrenergic and sympathetic effects were very similar to smooth muscle, suggesting that the sympathetic-induced contraction of the smooth muscle was inter-adrenal.
