民间艺人和方士利用纸扎工艺为人、为事、为器皿、为神,无所不及,影响之广,施及今人。如现在几乎人人会扎兔子灯、灯笼,会剪红双喜字;稍有一点年纪的人,其中不少人会剪鱼的图案,有的会扎纸鱼。因为这些内容都和民间祭祀、节庆有十分密切的关系。上海地区商业繁荣,客观上也繁荣了上海的纸扎工艺品。近六十年来,除了丰富多采的生肖纸扎外,还有不少用于祭祀活动的纸扎。这类纸扎由四个部分组成,即纸扎框架,彩纸糊裱外部轮廓,剪刻彩色纸装饰局部,朱墨勾勒突出形象的主要部位。 在民间祭祀中纸扎的灯特别多,除常见的灯笼、宫灯外,还有用于阴事的灯,如:九幽灯、九阳灯、十回度人灯、九莲灯、九阳升仙灯、八仙灯、荷
