New digital competitors are already fiercely contending for global dominance. In this rapidly changing and highly competitive environment, the old rules still apply: Know yourself know yourself. Publishers need to rethink the nature of the content they deliver - intelligent and interactive information services, learning tools and benign stimuli, databases, testing, assessment and personalization services. They need to think about giving writers and readers new impetus to judge the effectiveness of existing approaches - is it more affordable than traditional approaches in providing information, education and entertainment? Is there an effective business model to sustain this mode of transmission? New competitors continue to emerge, what is the role of the publisher?
