许世友一生结过3次婚。许世友的结发妻子叫朱锡明,和许世友是同乡,1901年生,比许世友大4岁。许世友和朱锡明共生了3个儿子,前两个都夭折了,第三个儿子叫许光。许世友参加黄麻起义离开家乡后,音信全无。后来,家乡传说他在战斗中被打死。为了不让儿媳独守空房,深明大义的许母左劝右劝,最后自作主张,把朱锡明改嫁给了一个老实本分的庄户人家。而许世友随部队出征不久,就听到了反动武装对革命家属进行疯狂报复,母亲被迫离家逃难,妻子和儿子被杀害的传言。因误听传言,许世友后来重新组织了家庭。
