This article describes the main components of a military differential compound engine. The engine operates at very high boost pressure and average effective pressure with a high pressure ratio centrifugal compressor that replaces the positive displacement compressor used on previous supercharged differential compound engines. The second part of this article discusses in detail the predictions of steady-state performance versus the performance of a selected high-power, two-stage turbocharged engine with a nine-speed gearbox. In the continuous torque reserve and high-speed high-load fuel economy, you can clearly see the differential composite engine superiority. The last part of this paper introduces the transient response characteristics of the differential compound engine and 40-ton tracked vehicle.
