数个世纪以来,丝绸、瓷器和玉器一直是中国人的装饰之物,但茶能够更加深刻地代表中华文化,它滋润着中国人民的身心。然而,尽管存在如此重要的联系,现在不少人却经常把茶文化与日本联系起来,这一现象可以用中国在19世纪的实力衰减来解释,但同时也正好表明日本正在努力向西方公众传播着茶的故事、茶的文化。唐顺宗永贞元年,日本最澄禅师回国,将中国的茶籽带回日本。15世纪,日本把它发展成为茶主义,并向世界解释、出口茶主义。这已经成为日本彰显其软实力的一个方式。中国的茶人们也从来没忘掉自己身上的担子。
