Commissioned by Total, Dutch researchers have developed a new low-cost catalyst for F-T synthesis. The catalyst has been used for the production of clean fuels from natural gas, biomass or coal. Traditional F-T synthetic catalysts use expensive cobalt catalysts to produce gasoline and diesel. The new catalyst was developed on the basis of the technology used to make magnetic tapes in the 1960s.
