在广西桂北山区恭城瑶族自治县的茶江河和势江河两条河流里,蕴藏着一种石质坚硬细密、光洁润泽、神韵俱佳的黑底黄花图纹卵石。当地石玩爱好者称之为“黄金图纹石”。黄金图纹石极具审美情趣和艺术观赏性。首先,此类石种硬度大,一般在6～7度,故质地细密,光洁润泽。据资料介绍,该石种为硅质岩和炭硅质板岩,形成的地质年代为元古晚期至寒武纪,距今约5～8亿年。黄金图案石最令人称奇的是色彩对比极其鲜明强烈,图纹清晰,无任何杂色。黄金图纹石又可分为两大类:一类石体黝黑如漆,缜密细致,光洁润泽,在通黑的石体上由金黄色纹理构成图案。此类图纹石最具审美情趣,品位极高;再一类是石体虽为全黑,石质硬度亦如前者,但略呈灰色,手感稍粗,石体上由米黄色纹理构成图
