玛格丽特·阿特伍德(Margaret Atwood,1939—),加拿大著名女作家,加国当代文坛领袖,在小说、诗歌、文学评论诸方面均取得很高成就。1972年出版《生存——加拿大文学主题指南》一书。28年后(2000年5月)阿特伍德在加拿大问题国际研讨会上旧事重提,又推及文学生存问题,语言风趣生动,且涉及的内容时我们了解加拿大文学很有裨益。译者当时适逢在加研修,有幸应邀出席研讨会,并获得阿特伍德这篇讲话的中文翻译授权。由于篇幅所限,本刊将分两期刊出全文。
Margaret Atwood (1939-), a famous Canadian woman writer and the leader of Canada’s contemporary literary world, has made great achievements in novels, poetry and literary criticism. 1972 “Survival - A Guide to the Subject of Canadian Literature.” Forty-eight years later (May 2000) Atwood’s past work on the international symposium on Canada was an important one. He also talked about the issue of literary survival. His speech was lively and vivid, and we learned about Canadian literature when it comes to content. At the time, the translator was attending Canadian studies and was fortunate enough to be invited to attend the seminar and to obtain the authorization of Chinese translation of Atwood’s speech.
