For the fourth year in a row, Wal-Mart tops the 2005 Fortune 500 ranking released by Fortune magazine. As the most representative figure of this fast-growing U.S. company, Zhuang Mengzhe, the executive vice president and president of International Department of Wal-Mart, came to Beijing again through the holding of a global forum by Fortune Magazine. Zhuang Mengzhe aroused our concern because of the news that he was posted at the Forum: the next day he was going to attend the opening ceremony of the 46th Wal-Mart store in China. Zhuang Mengzhe, in particular, showed reporters the Wal-Mart badge he had worn on his chest. He was exceptionally excited to tell reporters that he arranged for him a Chinese-style “finishing touch” event at the opening ceremony. From recent trends in Wal-Mart, you can feel that this super-giants are moving their focus to China. Zhuang Mengzhe’s excitement, in particular, revealed his enthusiasm for the Beijing store by the U.S. retailers he represents. So we decided to interview Zhuang Mengzhe.
