Chapter 1 Reproductive toxicology Reproductive toxicology is a study of the toxicological effects of chemicals on germ cells and reproductive functions, as well as their effects on future generations, and provides a basis for preventing such chemicals from potentially damaging human reproduction. Any animal species depends on the integrity of their reproductive system to survive. Germ cell chromosome genes, can pass on the genetic information of the ancestors to future generations, and can control cell differentiation and organogenesis. Under normal circumstances, to ensure that the structure and function of the body remain unchanged throughout, and passed on from generation to generation. However, at present there are at least 10,000 kinds of chemicals commonly found in the human living environment, and new ones are added each year
