北京是祖国的首都，是全国政治、文化中心，也是全国科技研究和出版事业的集中地。北京印刷工业在首都政治、经济中占有重要地位，是首都重要的工业部门之一。 目前，印刷业在北京整个工业中占的比重很低，这与首都的地位和功能不相符，与一些国际大都市相比也有较大差距。例如， １９９３年，日本东京出版业产值居制造业各业之首，其产值占日本印刷出版业总产值的４３％。巴黎印刷出版业产值约占法国印刷出版业总产值的５０％。１９９４年，香港特区印刷业产值居香港特区制造业第三位。为加快北京印刷业的发展，北京印刷工业科技信息站、北京市新闻出版局、北京市委研究室联合对北京地区的印刷工业现状进行了调查研究，并在此基础上，写出了《北京印刷工业现状及２０１０年的技术发展方向》调研报告。本刊在此摘登该报告主要内容，供读者参考。
Beijing is the capital of the motherland, the political and cultural center of the country, and the center of national science and technology research and publishing. Beijing’s printing industry occupies an important position in the capital’s politics and economy. It is one of the important industrial sectors in the capital. At present, the proportion of the printing industry in the entire industry in Beijing is very low, which is inconsistent with the status and function of the capital, and there is a big gap compared with some international metropolises. For example, in 1993, Tokyo’s publishing industry ranked first in the manufacturing industry, and its output value accounted for 43% of the total output value of Japan’s printing and publishing industry. The output value of Paris’s printing and publishing industry accounts for about 50% of the total value of the French printing and publishing industry. In 1994, the output value of the printing industry in Hong Kong SAR ranked third in the manufacturing industry in the Hong Kong SAR. In order to speed up the development of Beijing’s printing industry, Beijing Printing Industry Science and Technology Information Station, Beijing Municipal Press and Publication Bureau, Beijing Municipal Committee Research Office jointly conducted research on the status quo of the printing industry in Beijing, and on this basis, wrote “Beijing Printing”.
