It’s time for class. Suddenly, Becky told Miss Ross that she saw a tiger over by the wood. But Miss Ross didn’t believe her.
上课时间到了。突然，贝奇告诉罗斯小姐，自己看到树林里有只老虎！不过罗斯小姐才不相信呢！
Just then, Cathy ran into the classroom.
就在这时，凯茜冲进了教室。
“Late again, Cathy,” said Miss Ross angrily. “That’s the third time this week.”
“你又迟到了，凯茜，”罗斯小姐生气地说，“这是你本周第三次了。”
However, I believedBecky’s words. Because I seemed to see the tiger too.
但是，我相信贝奇的话，因为我好像也看到了。
“Would you come and look for the tiger with me at play-time?” I whispered to Becky.
“课间休息，你愿意跟我一起去找老虎吗？”我对贝奇小声说。
“All right.” said Becky.
“好吧。”贝奇说。
At play-time, Becky and I went to the wood together.
课间休息时，贝奇和我一起去了树林。
Suddenly I saw something. “Look!” I said. “Over there!”
突然，我看到了什么。“看！”我说，“就在那儿！”
There was something orange and fluffy hanging on a bush.
那儿有一个橙色的、毛茸茸的东西，就在一棵灌木上。
“It’s tiger fur!” whispered Becky. “There is a tiger after all!”
“那是虎皮！”贝奇小声说，“真的有一只老虎！”
Just then, the bell rang.
就在这时，上课铃响了。
At lunch we sat beside Matt because he knows all about tigers.
吃午饭的时候，我们坐在马特旁边，因为他知道与老虎有关的一切知识。
“Do tigers eat people?” I asked.
“老虎吃人吗？”我问。
“They like to eat people best of all.” said Matt.
“它们最喜欢吃人了。”马特说。
Matt, Becky and I went back to the wood. We kept close together. Suddenly, Matt stopped. “What was that?” he whispered.
马特、贝奇和我又回到树林里。我们互相挤挨着，突然，马特停住脚步。“那是什么？”他小声问。
Then we saw it! It was orange and had stripes. It was creeping through the bushes. All three of us screamed! We turned and ran straight into Miss Ross!
我们看到了! 那是个橙色的、有条纹的家伙，它正爬过灌木丛！我们三个一齐尖叫起来，转过身，一个劲儿跑向罗斯小姐。
“We saw the tiger！” I said.
“It’s in the wood.” said Becky.
“We’re lucky to be alive.” said Matt.
“我们看见了老虎！”我说。
“在树林里。”贝奇说。
“我们还活着，真走运。”马特说。
“I’ve told you all before, there is no tiger in the wood.” said Miss Ross. She walked into the wood.
“我以前就对你们说过，树林里没有老虎。”罗斯小姐说。说完，她向树林里走去。
“Goodbye, Miss Ross.” we whispered. We closed our eyes and waited for the scream.
“永别了，罗斯小姐。”我们小声说，然后闭上眼睛，等待着她的尖叫声。
But we didn’t hear a scream. We heard Miss Ross demand, “COME OUT AT ONCE!”
但是，没有尖叫声。我们听到罗斯小姐在大声命令：“给我出来，马上！”
Cathy came out of the wood. She was carrying a cat.
凯茜从树林里走了出来，她抱着一只猫。
“I was feeding my cat, Miss Ross.” said Cathy. “I feed her in the morning before school and at lunchtime. I keep her in the wood because my mum says I can’t take her home.”
“我在喂猫，罗斯小姐。”凯茜说，“我早上上学前和午饭时都会喂它。我把它放在树林里是因为妈妈说我不能带它回家。”
Miss Ross looked at Cathy for a long time. “The cat could live at my house,” said Miss Ross. “You could come and visit her.” Miss Ross didn’t sound angry anymore.
罗斯小姐盯着凯茜看了很久。“这猫可以住在我家，”罗斯小姐说，“你可以来看它。”罗斯小姐的声音听起来不再生气了。
“What’s your cat called?” I asked.
“Tiger.” said Cathy.
“So, there was a Tiger in the wood after all,” said Becky.
“你的猫叫什么？”我问道。
“老虎。”凯茜说。
“所以嘛，树林里还是有一只‘老虎’呀。”贝奇说。
