新河镇位于青阳县城东北,于2001年由原新河乡、童埠镇撤并组建。通过5年发展,该镇由撤并之初全县有名的困难镇,一跃成为全县乃至全市的明星镇。2006年全镇工业总产值1.6亿元,实现工业增加值4500万元,财政收入730.98万元,引进镇外资金8000万元,农民人均纯收入3300元。这一成绩的取得,主要得益于这个镇党委几年来坚持不懈地开展“强核心、拓富径、聚民心、树典型”活动。
