At the end of 1982, Kressel, an associate professor of radiology at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia, and Kressel, director of the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Research Laboratory, and colleagues compared thoracic, abdominal, and head diseases with normal people through MRI equipment. The results show that the spatial resolution is significantly improved at higher field strengths. In fact, the inter-chamber resolution of NMR proton imaging can be compared with that of CT. The diagnosis of mediastinal tumors is more clear with MRI than with other medical devices. MRI can detect vascular necrosis of the femoral head. This is even more advanced than the radionuclide imaging. Early diagnosis in this area improves the prevention of this disease because it can be treated before massive damage occurs.
