在我国,人们都比较熟悉印度的几个名城和大港,如德里、加尔各答、孟买、马德拉斯等。提起亚格拉的泰姬陵,班加罗尔的喷泉花园以及西姆拉、大吉岭等避暑胜地,也并不生疏。但是,贡图尔这个名字,知道的人却不多。贡图尔位于安德拉省,东距海岸一百五十余哩,北临奇斯特纳河,自加尔各答或德里到马德拉斯的火车都经过这里。公路四通八达,交通极便。贡图尔的人口约有十五万,这里的人说泰鲁固语,有些人也懂马德拉斯的泰米尔语,懂北方印地语的人不多,但说英语的却较北方
