乡村自治作为近代地方自治运动的产物，起源于直隶定县的翟城村。民国初年，翟城村自治在政府与乡绅的双向推动下启动，促进了传统乡村制度的变革，产生了重要的社会影响。20世纪20年代末，伴随南京国民政府乡村自治制度的推行，翟城村的自治制度形式发生了转捩。虽然翟城村自治以破产而告终，但其历史特点值得我们在推行村民自治的今天加以重视。
As a product of modern local autonomy, village self-government originated from Zhai Cheng Village in Zhili County, Zhili County. In the early years of the Republic of China, Zhaicheng village self-government started under the two-way promotion of the government and the squire, promoted the reform of the traditional rural system and had an important social impact. In the late 1920s, with the implementation of the system of village autonomy by the Nanjing National Government, the form of autonomy system in Zhaicheng Village changed. Although the Zhaicheng village self-government ended in bankruptcy, its historical characteristics deserve our attention today in the implementation of village self-government.
