中国古代文化,历史悠久,其中汉画像石在中国古代文化中是最具有特色的一种艺术形式。它那古朴浑厚的拙,雕刻艺术的美,现实与幻想并存的浪漫主义气息,都浸透着远古的永恒魅力。 现已出土的汉画像石主要分布在山东、河南、陕西、四川、江苏等地,其中江苏徐州是中国汉画像石分布最为集中的地区之一。徐州古称彭城,是汉高祖刘邦的故里,乃龙潜之地,两汉时期一直为封建王朝所重视。两汉四百年间,皇亲国戚、豪门大户聚居于此。豪门世家生前尽享人间之乐,死后则以“厚葬为德,薄终为鄙”,厚葬之风盛行。故而在墓中雕刻成画,炫耀其生前荣华富贵,死后以求能成仙继续富贵享乐,不仅豪门世家如此,中小地主也竞相效仿,由此,众多的汉画像石墓便在徐州一带盛行起来,形成了汉代这一独特的艺术形式——汉画像石雕刻艺术。 纵观徐州汉画像石刻,其题材内容十分广泛丰富,从石刻所反映的内容看,现实主义与浪漫主义题材并存是徐州汉画像石艺术的一大特征。 汉画像石中的现实生活题材,多是反映豪门贵族生前奢华享乐的生活场景,是汉代现实生活的真实写照。这类题材主要有车马出行、游射田猎、六博对弈、宴饮庖厨、乐舞百戏、角力争胜等生活场面。从中我们可以看到一个已经消失了的一千八百年前的汉代现实社会。
