沟里水库于1965年7月建成,流域面积44.6平方公里,总库容1004万方,兴利库容627万方,水库枢纽工程由溢流坝、土坝和放水洞组成。溢流坝为浆砌石重力坝,长164.8米,高17.7米,顶宽3.0米;土坝为均质坝,长560米,高12.4米,顶宽3.5米;放水洞为竖井式、闸前为砌石拱涵,闸后为直径1.5米的钢筋混凝土管。该水库以防洪为主,保护下游6公里处莱芜市区、沿河村镇、泰莱公路干线及南治、安仙、鄂庄煤矿等企业,同时减轻汶河、东平湖及黄河的防洪压力。

The reservoir is mainly flood control and protects Laiwu downtown, Yanhe village, Tailai highway and Nazhi, Anxian and Ezhuang coal mines 6 kilometers downstream and flood prevention pressure of Wen River, Dongping Lake and Yellow River at the same time.
